The Truth Strikes Back is a Star Wars-themed political attack ad against Democrat politician Jon Ossoff, claiming he was less than qualified for running for the United States House of Representative. One of the main bits of criticism being that, contrary to his claim that he acted as a National Security Advisor for five years, he spent half that time as a college student dressing up as Star Wars characters to protest underage restrictions for Keg Parties (hence the name), as well as bullying female college students. At least two versions of the ad were released: One lasting one minute, and the other lasting thirty seconds.

References to Star Wars in the ad[]

  • One of the pivotal scenes for the ad featured Ossoff and his college friends reenacting the famous introduction of Han Solo in A New Hope
    • Depending on the version of the ad, Ossoff will also paraphrase the 15 parsecs line by claiming that the Millennium Falcon "ran four kegs by DOPS in under three parsecs."
  • Late into the ad, several friends of his were reenacting the duel between Darth Vader and Obi-Wan Kenobi.
  • The name of the ad was an obvious reference to Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back.
  • The website showcasing the ad even contained a scroll summarizing the lines within the ad in a similar manner to the opening crawl from Star Wars.
  • Several of the text mirrored that of the font used for the Star Wars logo and the titles for each film.
