Lucasfilm Limited, LLC, known mostly as Lucasfilm and sometimes abbreviated LFL, is an American production company based in San Francisco, California, and a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company. It is currently led by Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy. The company was founded by George Lucas in 1971, and its first film was American Graffiti.
Since its founding, Lucasfilm has been responsible for all six Star Wars films, and created a number of subsidiaries—such as the famous Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) effects company—in order to produce its films. The company was also behind the four Indiana Jones movies, amongst many other well-known films. Its next feature film is Star Wars Episode VII, set to be released in December 18, 2015. In addition to film, Lucasfilm has also made a number of forays into television, including The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and the forthcoming Star Wars: Rebels.
