Simon Kinberg is a British-born American screenwriter who will be writing at least one of the upcoming Star Wars spinoff films.

Outside of Star Wars, Kinberg is known for writing such films as Mr. & Mrs. Smith, X-Men: The Last Stand, X-Men: First Class, Sherlock Holmes and its sequel, and the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Involvement in upcoming projects[edit | edit source]

Spinoff films[edit | edit source]

On November 20, 2012, The Hollywood Reporter reported Kinberg and Lawrence Kasdan, the latter of whom wrote Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, would be the writers and producers of Star Wars Episode VIII and Star Wars Episode IX.[1] However, on November 28, The Hollywood Reporter said that while the two would be working on Star Wars projects in the future, those projects were not necessarily the latter two sequel trilogy films.[2] Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed on February 5, 2013 that Kasdan and Kinberg would each be writing spinoff films.[3]

Star Wars Rebels[edit | edit source]

On May 20, 2013, Lucasfilm announced production on Star Wars Rebels, an animated series set between Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. It was further announced that Kinberg would be one of the executive producers, and that he would be writing the series premiere. The series premiere is set to air on the Disney Channel in fall 2014, with a full series following it on Disney XD.[4]
