Bryan Burk, one of the producers of Star Wars Episode VII, recently spoke with Collider about the film—including the possibility of filming in early 2014.
Knowing that the film has a tight production schedule in order to hit its release date in 2015, Collider asked Burk when filming would begin. According to Burk, their schedule is currently to begin "next year, or the beginning of next year." They haven't nailed down the locations yet, as Michael Arndt is still writing the script, but it is an ongoing pre-production process. Burk remarked on Bad Robot team's production process, saying that "when we feel like the story level on this script and everything is really coming together and schedules are all working and pieces line up, we prowl ahead, and Star Wars will be no different."
It will be fascinating to see how the production of Episode VII moves along. J.J. Abrams is known for taking his time on projects—there was a four year gap between Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness—but, as Collider notes, Disney is committed to releasing Episode VII in 2015.
Luckily for the fans, the entire production team seems very eager to get started and get things right. As Burk himself said, "If I weren't working on the project, I'd have the same interest as everyone else because it's something that I, too, am looking forward to seeing where the franchise goes next."
