Given the mixed reaction to the three most recent Star Wars films, whether Star Wars Episode VII will be like the originals or prequels is hot on peoples' minds. In a recent interview with Collider, J.J. Abrams was asked about his thoughts on the Star Wars prequel trilogy. As always, Abrams was coy but did shed some light that we might be able to read into:

"I gotta say, as someone who is such a Star Wars fan, without question my favorite movies were the original films. And it's a funny thing because a lot of my friends have this debate there they say "Empire Strikes Back's clearly the better movie." I don't know, I have a soft spot in my heart for Star Wars, the original film. I love Empire as well, but there's something about Star Wars, the original."

He was certainly diplomatic about it but, even if he doesn't outright hate the prequels like some fans, I would imagine he's not that big a fan of them. He did add, though, that working on Star Wars is "an incredibly exciting prospect."

The prequels weren't the only controversial aspect of Star Wars that he dove into. The interviewer also brought up the special edition change between Han Solo and Greedo in the Mos Eisley Cantina. When asked "Who shot first?," Abrams said "I would argue there was only one shot."

What are your thoughts on the prequels, and what influence do you think they'll have on the making of the new films? Let us know in the comments!
